Perception of Closeness

Now that people are connected with each other with the tip of one fingers, distance is not longer the topic that people talked about (unless when you are in a long distance relationship where skin-to-skin feelings matters). But still, there are video calls now where you can chat long distance. With people more connected with each other, should people be more aware of each others’ feelings and emotions?

From my humble stand point, seems like younger generations are more socially awkward. Don’t know when to not speak. I understand the freedom of speech, where people want no limit in what they say. But, most of the time, people tend to, pardon my french, expose their stupidity, insensitivity and harmful to self statement to public.

When the people are connected through ‘keyboard’, the intonation of a voice, the face reaction of a person are absence from the conversation, which can lead to miscommunications and misunderstandings. Hence, due to the absence of physical being, the information received is based on the perception of the receiver.

But, after all, aren’t all things ‘important’ now are the perceptions? (in sarcastic tone).




That small thing called happiness

“Are you happy?”

This is a simple question one asked me. Most of the time, my default answer was “Yes, I am”. But this time, I choose to think about it. Am I happy? Well, I am not sad, does that makes me ‘happy’?

Do I wake up daily feeling pumped up? No. Do I look forward for my day? Well, not really. I really trying to get through today for tomorrow will come afterwards. Do I want a different life? Yes, I do. Back to the question, “Are you happy?” Honestly, no. I am indifferent.

Definition of happiness

What makes people happy? Is it getting what they want? Or to put it in more fancy word, ‘achieving target’. In order to be happy, people starts to set targets, such as, “I want a new dress”. Bought the dress, bam, happy. Or I want to win the race, won the race, happy. What if people do not get what they want? Some people feel sad, some people feel more motivated and some people may feel indifferent. Due to this, can I say happiness is highly dependent on your ‘target’? If one has no target, just live as it is, is (s)he happy?

Setting target

People can set long term or short term target. Easy or hard target. Once you achieved it, you are happy and ready to move on to the next target. This process continues until you die. Since we will put another target, (or hope, or goal, whatever you want to call your “future state that you wish to have”), after achieving a target, when will you be actually happy?

Our Values

To me, values play an important roles in determining how to be happy. What is the thing that you value the most in life? Some people put family on top, some wealth, some knowledge and some popularity. Its up to you. You know yourself (or you feel that you know yourself). In determining your values, you need to be honest with yourself. You don’t have to share it with anyone, so, no one will judge you! And values may change as you grow older, or experience a “kick” in your life. (Kick= something big that change your life direction such as getting married, having your first kid, death of spouse, retirement or starting career from student life)

To be happy, the ‘target’ we discussed above, should be in line with your values.


I’m not expert in religion. But, when you acknowledge that some things are already written to you and you have no control on it, you feel much calmer.

For example, marriage. Your partner had been written for you before you were born in this world. Instead of trying to ‘find’ your partner, and be sad and stress about it, you should just focus on improving yourself.

Instead of stressing out because you have not gotten your promotion, you should just trying your best at your work.

When you acknowledge, there is a greater power than men, you’ll be calmer hence happier.

Be thankful

All in all, despite not achieving target, when you are thankful, you’ll be happy.

Am I happy?

If my answer is no. Maybe I should take a step back, look around me, and be more thankful that I am still here.




That Small Thing Called Life

“Tell me any memories that you will never forget”

This question always lead me to a long pause. I could not think about any interesting memories that I will never forget. Mostly because I do not have any interesting memories. At least, nothing that anybody wants to hear. That long pause often became a full stop and followed by a different topic.

But, as time flies, I started to look back at my past and older age made me look at life from different perspective. I started to think back about the question. The truth is, most of the time,  when being asked that question, I was afraid to answer it. I was sort of afraid of being ‘wrong’. I was afraid that people will judge me or got bored with my answer. Why was I that afraid?

Journey of seeking the ‘right’ answer

I used to be a confident teenager. I did not care about what others think and everything in the world revolves around me. Nothing matters except me, my friends and family. In other simple words, I was ignorant, self centered and think highly about myself. I thought I was confident, but the truth is, I was ignorant to the fact that it was all a lie. Sadly, I did not even realised that I lied to myself. I was a really good liar until I was able to tricked myself to appear like a confident person.

I pretended that I do not care about what people think, when the truth was, I really care of being liked. I was who I was because I really care about what people think of me, I really wanted to be known and liked. That time, I was really drawn with myself, I forgot to look at things and people around me. That little things called life.

So, when someone asked me the ‘question’, I could not answer it because I was afraid people will know that my life was as ordinary as anybody else and people will got bored with ‘ordinary’ answer.

When reality sinks in

When i get older, i started to think about my past, what i should or should not have done. I started to read back my old journals. By studying myself, I started to realised who I really am. I started to look at that small things around me. I started to cherish the small memories that was buried deep in my head because all this time, I believe that those memories were just ‘ordinary’memories that worth nothing. I started to find that ‘something’ that I will never forget. By accepting who I really am, I am no longer afraid of being judge by my ordinary life.  I also started to appreciate that small group of people called friends instead of large group of people called acquaintance. I started to care about what other people think, not for their approval but to understand their behavior, to understand the reason behind their decisions and choices.

So, tell me something that you will never forget

I will never forget that time when I was 8.  We were on our way down from our classroom on the 4th floor when i tripped and fell few steps of the stairs, on my butt. Luckily, nothing was broken, but I could not walk straight for a week. I got 2 weeks medical leave which, of course, as a lazy student, I really enjoyed. I forget how the pain felt, but i remember  I went out and play by walking side ways like a crab. Good times.

That small thing called life

I found my ‘right’ answer to the question, it was that tiny little memories that was always in my head. I realised that, when I accept who I am, I started to accept and cherish all the memories that I had, the sweet memories that I hope I can experience it again or that bitter memories that I really wished never happened.

I started to look at that small things around me.

Baking: Mug Cake

I love to eat cakes! Who doesn’t? But most of the time, I would be too lazy to go to the cafe and buy one, because, i need to spend time to get ready, you know, dressing up, put on some makeup (even though my daily make up routine only consists of powder, eyeliner and lip stick) and go out JUST to buy the cake, it is not worth it (i need around 1 hour to get ready, and buying cake will take me 5 minutes, the journey will be around 30 minutes, you do the math, it is just not worth it).

I don’t mind baking at home, in fact, i do enjoy baking. But baking cake, a whole cake, is not worth it. You see, it is only me and my husband at home plus, cake that is 2-3 days old is not that yummy. How about cup cakes? Well, we don’t have cup cakes/ muffin tins at home, and a batch of cup cakes usually consists of 6 cup cakes, which are still too much for both of us. In the end, i just suppress my craving because it is just not worth it.

But, my life had changed! Yesterday, while browsing youtube, i stumble into a “mug cake” cake video. Well, baking cake, in a mug, using microwave! I heard about it before, but i just don’t give a damn. You know, cake in a microwave, hmm, that doesn’t sound like cake at all. Anyway, i gave it a try. It took me awhile to find recipe that is easy and trustworthy. So i found this ‘Chocolate Peanut Butter Mug Cake’ recipe. It is delicious, but i increased the baking time to 2 minutes and 20 seconds with my 700w microwave. I definitely will try the recipe again, but i may increase the amount of peanut butter.

Product Review : M.A.C Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation


Are you the type of person that always hitting snooze on your alarm every morning, especially when you need to be somewhere and end up wake up only few minutes left to get ready? Well, i am that type of person. I always try to maximise my sleeping time on the expense of getting ready time. As a result, i love products that give me that instant “presentable” look as my skin care routine already took a big chunck of of my getting ready time.

So, when preparing yourself to look presentable, apart from what you wear, your face also plays an important role. You would want to look “awake” and “fresh”, and as the skin is the largest thing on your face, i always focus on it.

M.A.C Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation is one of the product that i used every time i’m going out. It gives a good coverage, i.e even out my skin tone and it is easy to wash off. I’ve been using this for approximately 7 years and i still using it. I don’t use the sponge that comes with the powder, i use powder brush instead. This is because, using brush is easier and the application is more even. Next, plop on some lipstick, and you are ready to go. =)

Basic Skin Care Routine


I will start my blog post with the basic stuff most women do, skin care routine. So, I will share with you my routine and my favourite skin care products. Please bare in mind that product’s reaction towards our skin is different, so the effects that i have may be different that yours. First, let me introduce my skin to you, I am asian with mild- sensitive skin. I do have breakouts, but not often (usually few days before period) and the breakouts normally consists of one or two small pimples.

These are my favourite basic skin care products:

1. SK-II Facial Treatment Gentle Cleanser (used for almost 2 years)

2. SK-II Facial Treatment Clear Lotion (used for almost 2 years)

3. SK-II Facial Treatment Essence (used for almost 2 years)

4. Moisturiser

5. Neutrogena Ultra- Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF50 (can’t remember the exact year when i first  used this product but definitely more than 5 years)

I will use all of the above products twice a day, ‘after waking up’  (sometimes in the morning sometimes in the afternoon) and ‘before going to sleep’. To be honest, sometimes i do skip this routine because i’m too lazy but you shouldn’t as skin care routine is important to keep your skin clean in order to reduce the likelihood of dirt buildup which can lead to pimples.

These are what i do for each routine:

1. Start with cleanser and a wet face, using fingers in circular motion, rinse with water, you know the drill. Dab face dry using towel, try to avoid from wiping your face because it may harm your skin.

2. Next is the clear lotion (i.e the toner, apparently, Japanese brand uses “lotion” instead of toner, the characteristic of this lotion is not like your hand lotion, it is clear, like .. toner). For this, i use cotton pad and wipe the face, gently, upward and outward motion, avoiding eye area. Not forgetting the neck. This step will enhance you skin’s ability to absorb the benefit of the next product you going to use.

3. After that, i will dab the essence to my face, including eye and lips area, using cotton pad.

4. Next is moisturiser, using fingers, in circular motion on the face. Notice that i did not specify the brand of the product that i used because for now, i do not have any favourite moisturiser, and keep on changing my moisturiser from one brand to another. I will update you guys once i found one.  Moisturiser is  important to close the pores that was opened up during step 2- clear lotion/toner.

5. This step only applicable for my ‘after waking up’ routine or especially when I’m going out. I will apply sunscreen on my face and neck. I will never leave home without sunscreen, even during my lazy day, because the UV rays may harm your skin, in the long run.

That’s it, my basic skin care routine and my favourite skin care products.
